Next to Le Bugue, at only 6 km, Journiac is nested in a green valley of the black Perigord. A stream crosses the village and you can admire there a beautiful wash-house.
It's during the paleolithic period that the first inhabitants arrived at Journiac, as witnessed by the Treil rock shelter.
The Latin name "Juronius" suggests that a small Gallo-Roman city existed at this location, the presence of an oppidum next to the Roman road "Vésone-Cahors" confirms this origin.
The XIIth century was a prosperous period allowing the construction of the church.
