The Vézère Valley concentrates a large part of the tourist sites of Périgord Noir. The D706 runs along the river and provides access to villages such as Limeuil, Le Bugue, Les Eyzies, Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère or Montignac-Lascaux. It opens the doors to caves, castles, troglodyte sites, parks and gardens and craftsmen.

Come discover the past by visiting Lascaux-Dordogne

The Vézère valley is known for its prehistoric remains

La Lascaux cave is internationally recognized for its collection of exceptional paintings, but very close to Montignac-Lascaux there are many other caves, each more interesting than the last. We take you a little further south of the Vallée de l'Homme: Les Eyzies. In this small village, there is an impressive concentration of prehistoric remains. Of course, the National Museum of Prehistory highlights some of the finds made in the Lascaux-Dordogne region, but also throughout France and abroad. Les Eyzies also covers a few square kilometers: the cave of Font de Gaume, the Combarelles cave, the Roc de Cazelle caves. This road with numerous prehistoric sites leads to Sarlat, but also to the Château de Commarque.

The Château de Commarque and the other castles of Dordogne

The Dordogne is commonly called “ The Land of 1001 Castles.” Some have been visited for decades, we think in particular of the Château de Commarque which saw the De Commarque family maintain and develop this medieval vestige of Les Eyzies. Aude de Commarque, the new owner continues to develop a tourist activity while preserving the soul of the place.
Visiting Lascaux-Dordogne also means discovering little gems like the Château de Losse or the Donjon and Manoir de la Salle, more recently opened to visitors.

Clinging to the cliff, La Roque Saint-Christophe and the troglodyte sites remain emblems of Dordogne

Arriving opposite La Roque Saint-Christophe, its immensity is breathtaking. By visiting it, we understand why and how men wanted to settle on this rock which dominates the Vézère river. Come and discover the different troglodyte sites of Périgord Noir, each of them with its own particular history.

Come and discover the beauty of unspoilt nature.

Local artisans who master their know-how

From Limeuil to Saint-Léon sur Vézère, the art masters are happy to open their doors to make their work known. The know-how “made in Périgord” is sometimes recognized outside our borders. This is the case of Fish Leather Creations by Kristof Mascher who always takes pleasure in telling his story and the materials with which he works. Near the Lascaux caves, there are many personalities to meet.
