What is the International Center for Cave Art?
Lascaux IV: the complete replica of the original cave
Since its closure to the public in 1963, the Lascaux cave can no longer be visited: the prehistoric paintings are thus preserved. But it is still possible to discover them thanks to the sites reproduced in Montignac-Lascaux, in Dordogne, very close to the original site:
- The Lascaux II facsimile, which includes the first two rooms of the original cave (the Room of the Bulls and the Axial Diverticulum) and which can be visited by torchlight;
- Lascaux IV, or International Center for Cave Art, the facsimile of which is a complete reproduction of the cave, with many additional activities.
A new space for a new experience
Opened in 2016, the International Center for Cave Art offers different spaces and exhibition rooms for a complete immersion in the prehistoric era.
In addition to the visit to the reproduction of Cave and all its paintings, the different spaces of the site invite visitors to deepen their discoveries with a workshop, a theater, But also A movie theater.
In particular, it is a question of links between parietal art and contemporary art, and heritage of the first men. With its atypical architecture and its semi-buried building of more than 8 m², perfectly integrated into the environment of the Lascaux cave, the International Center for Cave Art offers an extraordinary adventure.
