The hilltop village of Miremont owes its name to an Occitan origin: "mira", for "look" and "mount", used for a high place. It dominates the valley majestically. Its feudal keepThis 13th-century town overlooks the crumbling ramparts. The manor houses and town houses bear witness to the presence of the Forge Masters which once supported a metallurgical industry on the banks of the Manaurie stream. Further back in the valley, the village of Mauzens retains the warm colours of stone of the same name. Even today, the quarrying of building stone contributes to the vitality and renown of the town.
