Since 2012, the instability of jihadist origin which occasionally manifested itself south of the Algerian Sahara has engulfed the entire African Sahel region. The French intervention in Mali, decided in January 2013, marked the start of a politico-military crisis which has worsened over time and whose outcome no one can predict.
Does the end of Operation Barkhane raise fears of a development towards a “Sahelistan”?
