From Terrasson-Lavilledieu to Limeuil, where the Vézère joins the Dordogne, the river flows through one of the most beautiful regions of Périgord. This fourth stage takes you from Sergeac to Les Eyzies. Pass through the village of Sergeac to reach the Castelmerle valley, a major prehistoric site in the Vézère Valley. You will successively discover the troglodytic site of La Roque St Christophe, the site of La Madeleine and the sites of Le Moustier, La Micoque and Laugerie.

Step 1

28 - Depart from Sergeac village square. Follow the signs for "Castel-Merle", then turn left at the sign indicating the hiking trails. Take the small road that climbs up, passing by the inn.
29 - Fork right onto the track that runs deep into the woods before forking right again onto a track.
Follow the yellow signs to "Chaillac".
30 - Leave it for the green signs on the right in Chaillac, go straight on then turn right at the crossroads.
31 - Take the first track on the left.
32 - In the woods, as you descend, take the small track that goes down to the right. Leave the first track (mountain bike) on the right, then a little further on, at the junction with another track, take it on the right. Continue straight ahead.
33 At the crossroads, turn right towards Peyzac.
At the tarmac, go past the farm, then take the road on the right before forking off at the bottom of the hill onto the track on the left.
34 Follow the river as far as the little chapel at Peyzac le Moustier. Go up to the main road and cross it to take the steps opposite and pick up a track.
35 At the top of the hill, go straight on, then at the next crossroads, turn right to reach "la Roque Saint Christophe". Follow the road along the site, passing at the foot of the cliff until you reach the RD.

Step 2

36 At the bend near the deposit, turn right down to the river. Go under the bridge. Go as far as the tarmac, turn left and continue along the small road. At the fork in the road, turn right onto "Sur le Ruth".
37 Go up the small road and continue straight on, following the yellow signs to the hamlet of "Lespinasse".
38 - In the hamlet, go down on the left, and before reaching the bridge, take the small road on the right as far as the "La Madeleine" car park.
39 - Before reaching the site car park, take the path on the right (green markings) signposted "Boucle de la Micoque". On the path after the hairpin bend, turn right, then go straight on. Climb back up, staying on the path and following the green markers.
40 - At the tarmac at the end of the track, continue left, then stay on the small road to the right at the next junction. Turn left at the top of the hill onto the bevelled path after the vines. Continue along the track, passing the viewpoint over the valley and La Madeleine (on the left) before rejoining the La Micoque loop.
41 - At the end of this loop, turn right, then leave the chalk track and take the small path into the woods on the right. Go past the "Micoque deposit" (signposted on the left at the junction), and turn left as far as the "Mas".
42 - In the village of Le Mas, keep to the right. At the bottom of the village, take the road on the right. At the mill on the stream, take the left-hand path alongside the river and follow the road along the side of the road. When you reach Les Eyzies, pass under the road bridge, go around it, and take the footbridge attached to the bridge to enter the village.
