Description

From Terrasson-Lavilledieu to Limeuil where the Vézère meets the Dordogne, the river runs through one of the most beautiful regions of Périgord. This sixth stage will take you from Bugue to Limeuil. Le Bugue, located at the confluence of the Vézère and the Douch, has been a place of passage since prehistoric times (Bara Bahau cave). The town developed around a convent founded in 964 and the port used by the forge masters; Then towards Limeuil, a pronounced difference in altitude will allow you to turn around to benefit from a spectacular panorama of the valley. Arrival in Limeuil at the confluence of the Dordogne and the Vézère: visit this village included on the list of the most beautiful villages in France, its panoramic gardens, its medieval part and the remains of the fortifications and its port part on the rivers.

Getting to the starting pointto report a problem

Step 1: From Bugue to “Lambertie”

52 – Departure from the Tourist Office.
Take the Limeuil road on the left (in front of the Hôtel du Cygne) then turn right onto “Chemin des noisetiers”. Take the small stony path which goes up the hill. Enjoy the view!
53 – At the tarmac, turn right, then left. At the intersection, continue on the road on the right. In Canteyrat, take the path on the left. Continue straight and at the end, turn left.
54 – At the tarmac, turn right, then left direction. Lambertie. Continue right.

Step 2: From “Lambertie” to Limeuil

At Lambertie, cross the farm straight on. At the bottom of the hill, turn left.
55 – At the intersection with the D703, take the road on the left then find the path on the right. At the top of the hill, at the crossroads, take the path which runs along the small road on the right. Return to the road by a path on the left, and take this road on the right. Then turn off at the bend on the path which goes up into the woods on the right.
At the top of the hill, at the crossroads, take the path on the left and continue straight on until the road. At the tarmac, turn left.
56 – Continue on the small road to the bottom of the valley and take a path on the right.
57 – Go straight ahead and at the tarmac, take the road to the crests on the right. Continue straight on to Limeuil.
Enter Limeuil through the Porte du Marquisat, go down the small village street to the confluence and the hiking sign, where you can take a souvenir photo with Cro-Magnon. Congratulations! You have covered 90 km in the footsteps of the Lascaux Men.
