La Chapelle Aubareil • Dordogne

Take the time to discover it

Charming village located between Montignac-Lascaux and Saint Léon sur Vézère, La Chapelle Aubareil is situated at an altitude of 260 m.
The village is overlooked by a tower, a remain of the medieval castle certainly acquired on February 15,1698 by the lord of Pelvézy. A document shows that at that time, the castle was already in a state of disrepair.
Some pieces of this castle were certainly used to build the houses of the town as shown by the
quoins, lintels and jambs made of cut stone, arrow loops, gate houses, mullioned windows ...
A walk in the village allows to discover these architectural elements and a carved cross with a Christ, remain of the old cemetery.
