Abri Pataud
"Located in the very heart of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac in the Dordogne just off the National Prehistory Museum, 25 km from the famous Lascaux caves, Abri Pataud is a prehistoric site along a cliff overlooking the Vézère valley.
This unique site was inhabited from 20,000 to 35,000 years ago. It is now an educational site protected by a metal structure, revealing to visitors how millennial chronology is deciphered within a prehistoric site through stratigraphic excavation.
Begin your tour with a view of numbered, dated strata complete with objects (for example, fragments of adornment, beads and pendants) that correspond with each period.
Don't miss seeing the objects that were excavated here, now on exhibition at the National Prehistory Museum.
