Château de Losse
5 Km from Montignac Lascaux on D 706. The Medieval stronghold towers above the river Vézère. Within its curtain walls and deep moat a Renaissance hall was built in 1576. It is accessed by a monumental gatehouse where an inscription proclaims, in the line of 16th century thought, « Man does as he may, Fate as she wills ».
Inside the Renaissance hall a fine decor and exceptional period furniture bear witness to the grand lifestyle of Jean II de Losse, soldier and courtier of all the sons of Catherine de Medicis, the last Valois kings. The gardens within the walls or terraced over the river with plantations following the 16th century lay out, offer an inspired and charming wandering with unspoiled views over the virgilian coutryside.
