Sergeac is located in the Périgord Noir on the banks of the Vézère, bordered at this point by high cliffs at the foot of which numerous prehistoric sites have been discovered.
After the obligatory passage in front of a monumental crossroads cross, in a medieval style not very common in Périgord, we see the imposing mass of the church built towards the end of the 11th century on Roman ruins.
The village is also home to the authentic site of Castel Merle which has 10 remarkable rock shelters, occupied by Neanderthal man 85 years ago then by Cro-Magnon man 000 years ago. It is one of the highest concentrations of deposits in Europe, reflecting an exceptional continuity of human occupation.
