La Roque Saint-Christophe – Fort et Cité troglodytiques

Overlooking the Vézère valley from a height of 80 m, the Roque Saint-Christophe (1 km long) is located in Peyzac-Le-Moustier in the Dordogne, between Les Eyzies and the Lascaux cave in Montignac-Lascaux.

Here, man has lived since prehistoric times in natural cavities at the foot of this immense limestone wall, before building a fort and a troglodyte city there in the Middle Ages. The visit, which allows you to understand how troglodyte dwellings were built, is astonishing. Cuisine, places of worship, ingenious civil engineering machines in working order: everything is magnificently reconstructed and explained to make this troglodyte village an open booklet on 55 years of human practices. A 000D projection on a large screen at the terrace level traces the evolution of the cliff through the ages, not to be missed!
