La Roque Saint-Christophe – Fort et Cité troglodytiques
Overlooking the Vézère valley from a height of 80 m, Roque Saint-Christophe (1 km long) is located in Peyzac-Le-Moustier in Dordogne, between Les Eyzies and the Lascaux cave in Montignac-Lascaux.
Here, man has lived, since prehistoric times, in natural cavities, at the foot of this immense limestone wall, before building there, in the Middle Ages, a fort and a troglodyte city. The visit, which allows you to understand the way troglodyte dwellings were arranged, is astonishing. Cuisine, places of worship, ingenious civil engineering machines in working order: everything is magnificently reconstructed and explained to make this troglodytic village an open booklet covering 55 years of human practices. A 000D projection on the large screen on the terrace traces the evolution of the cliff through the ages, not to be missed!
