Lascaux II

Located in Montignac-Lascaux in Périgord Noir, the Lascaux cave is a masterpiece of prehistoric art. Its frescoes represent around 600 animals: horses, bulls, deer, ibexes, felines, a bear, a rhino and even a fantastic figure commonly called "the Unicorn". Enigmatic signs accompany them, piquing everyone's curiosity.
Preserved for more than 50 years, the Lacaux cave can be discovered in a facsimile located on the same hill as the original cave and buried in the ground. A technological feat of great scientific and artistic rigor made it possible to recreate the atmosphere of the place and 90% of its polychrome paintings (Room of the Bulls and Axial Diverticulum), produced as they were 17 years ago with natural dyes. Two “museographic airlocks” retrace its history and explain the artists’ techniques.
