National Museum of Prehistory
Situated in the heart of the Vézère valley in the Dordogne, between Le Bugue and the Lascaux cave at Montignac-Lascaux, the village of Les Eyzies well deserves its nickname of world capital of prehistory.
The ideal introduction to any visit to World Heritage sites, the Musée national de Préhistoire invites you to discover the oldest traces left by man, which are particularly well highlighted by its contemporary architecture.
Along the monumental cliff face, which forms an integral part of this journey through time, the exhibition rooms are packed with stone tools, bone and ivory artefacts, life-size reconstructions of prehistoric man and extinct animals, providing an insight into how societies have evolved over the last 400,000 years.
