Discovering the Vézère Valley without a car is possible!

Ideas for car-free routes

Here are 3 suggested routes to visit the Vézère valley in Périgord Noir. A first access is to be expected by train, complemented by a hike or bike ride.

  • “Les Eyzies, journey into Prehistory” from the train station Eyzies located 700 meters from the town thanks to the Périgueux-Agen railway line. Set off to discover Les Eyzies, a key village in prehistory, notably through the Micoque loop. This 12km hike will reveal a valley that has 350 years of human occupation.

  • “Countryside, a castle and its park” from the train station Buggy, located 5 km away, thanks to the Périgueux-Agen railway line. Discover the banks of Vézère on foot or by bike (possibility of bus in summer season), the castle, the park and the Campagne forest with two hiking loops of 5 km and 2,5 km.
  • "Limeuil, at the confluence of the Vézère and the Dordogne” from Buisson de Cadouin station located 6 km away via the Bordeaux-Bergerac-Sarlat line or from Bugue station located 6 km away on the Périgueux-Agen line (possibility of renting an electric bike in Le Bugue). You will discover the views of the Dordogne and the Vézère, as well as the village of Limeuil ranked Most Beautiful Villages in France. The greenway continues and will soon allow you to reach Limeuil from Le Bugue.
